Position64 Privacy Policy

Position64 scans, corrects, analyzes, saves, and exports chess positions on your device. The app does not require an account, and we do not operate an app backend.
Position64 does not automatically upload your chessboard images or positions to us. It does not include advertising, third-party behavioral analytics, or cross-app tracking. You remain in control of any export, external website action, or support email.
1. Information processed on your device
When you choose to provide or create it, Position64 handles:
- Chessboard photos, screenshots, and imported image files.
- Recognized and corrected positions, FEN and PGN, orientation, game-state details, and explored moves.
- Saved-position names, favorites, tags, and notes.
- App preferences, the remaining free-recognition allowance, and purchase entitlement status supplied through Apple’s StoreKit.
Recognition and chess-engine analysis take place locally. The app stores its local content in its device containers. We do not receive ordinary scans or use your images to train recognition models. Sending us an image yourself for support is a separate, voluntary action described below.
2. Permissions and input sources
- Camera: Used to capture a board when you choose the camera action and grant permission.
- Photos and Files: The system picker provides the items you select for import, not unrestricted access to your entire library. Retrieving an item stored in iCloud may use Apple’s services.
- Clipboard: Clipboard content is imported when you explicitly choose a paste action. Copy actions write the FEN or other exported content you requested. Position64 does not continuously read the clipboard.
- Share Extension: An image you share to Position64 passes through a local App Group container shared by the app and its extension so the main app can process it.
You can manage camera permission in iOS Settings. The app does not continuously monitor your camera, photo library, or files.
3. Purchases and Apple services
Apple processes Lifetime Pro purchases and restores. Position64 receives the product and verified transaction information needed to determine access. We do not receive your payment-card details through the app. Purchasing, restoring, or validating a transaction may communicate with Apple. Apple handles this information under its own privacy policies.
4. Sharing and optional external websites
When you export or share a board image, FEN, or PGN, the content is passed to the destination you choose. If you choose to open a position in Lichess or Chess.com, the app opens that provider’s website with the position and orientation in the URL. That provider receives those details and ordinary web-request information under its own policy. These actions do not occur automatically.
Opening these support and privacy pages also makes a normal request to our website and hosting providers, which may process connection information such as your IP address. These pages contain no advertising, analytics scripts, or tracking cookies added by us.
5. Contacting support
If you email us, we receive your email address, the message, and any attachments or diagnostic details you choose to send. We use that information to answer your request and investigate the reported issue, not for advertising or model training. Our email service provider processes the correspondence to deliver and store it.
Please omit passwords, payment-card information, and unrelated personal content. Support correspondence is retained only as needed to handle and follow up on your request or meet applicable recordkeeping requirements. You can contact us to request deletion of support information; this is subject to any information we must retain by law.
6. Retention, deletion, and backups
Local content remains until you remove it through Position64 or iOS, subject to system storage, backup, and restore behavior. You can remove a retained original image while keeping its corrected position, or delete a saved position from the library. Exported copies remain wherever you chose to save or share them.
Your iOS or iCloud backups may include app data according to your system settings. Removing the app does not necessarily delete backups or exported copies. There is no developer-hosted Position64 account or cloud library for us to delete.
7. Security
Position64 uses iOS app sandboxing, a local App Group shared with its Share Extension, and StoreKit transaction verification. No storage method is completely secure. Protect your device, email account, and backups.
8. Policy changes and contact
