WordNex provides dictionary lookup and word-relationship exploration on your device. No account is required. Version 2.0 contains no advertising or analytics service and does not send screen captures, imported images, camera images, microphone audio, dictionary searches, saved meanings, or exploration trails to the developer.
Screen capture and images on Mac
WordNex for Mac uses screen capture instead of a camera. Screen Recording permission is requested when you choose to capture. The app takes a still image of the selected display so that you can select a region; it does not continuously record your screen or capture system audio. Text recognition happens on your Mac. The display image used for region selection is released when selection finishes or is cancelled. The selected region or imported image stays in app memory until you clear it, replace it, or quit WordNex; the app does not save these images to disk.
Open Image reads only the file you choose. Paste Image reads an image from the clipboard only when you invoke that action. Selecting a recognized word retains its line as reading context. If you explicitly save that meaning, its reading context is included in the saved item and may appear in a later export.
Camera and photos on iPhone and iPad
Camera permission enables recognition of printed English text. The system photo picker gives the app access to photos you select for recognition. Recognition takes place on your device. The app does not keep camera images as permanent records.
Optional speech and permissions
Dictation requires microphone and speech-recognition permission and an available on-device English model; it does not fall back to server recognition. Microphone recordings are not saved permanently. Spoken pronunciation uses system speech voices. You can use typed dictionary search without screen, camera, or microphone access. You can revoke permissions in device Settings, or in System Settings → Privacy & Security on Mac.
Saved information and deletion
Preferences, lookup history, saved meanings (including reading context), and named exploration trails are stored locally until you remove them. The Mac and iOS apps do not automatically synchronize these collections. Saved information may be included in backups according to your backup settings. You can clear history and remove saved meanings and trails within the app.
On Mac, the explicit Back Up and Reset recovery action copies the affected library file before starting that collection empty. That backup may contain saved reading context and is retained until you delete it; Show Backup in Finder reveals its location. Removing a saved item from the active collection does not change an existing recovery backup. Copies in device backups and exported files also remain under your control. On iPhone and iPad, deleting the app removes its local app data; offloading preserves it. On Mac, deleting the application may leave local support files behind. Contact support if you need help locating those files.
Exporting and sharing
When you choose an export, WordNex writes or shares the selected content to the destination you choose. Mac saved-word CSV exports include the saved meanings and their reading context. iOS sharing can include saved meanings or a trail PDF; a trail includes its words, meaning cues, and visit sequence. Receiving apps and services handle that content under their own policies. Exports may remain outside WordNex after the original item is deleted.
Support and external services
If you email support, your email address and message are received so that we can respond. Please do not include sensitive information unless needed for your request. App Store services, device backups, system speech assets, and any external website you open are provided by their respective operators and are subject to their policies.
